(Warning… my imagination is running rampant right now)
Picture this! Say a collapse occurs, zombie apocalypse, more realistically government or economic collapse, something like a world war, nuclear bomb or another great depression. Naturopathic Doctors will still have all of the tools necessary to diagnose and treat patients.
Nine times out of ten an ND will be able to figure out what’s going on with your entire system after doing a thorough verbal intake and physical exam. Yes we love to order blood work but more often than not we could tell you which lab tests will be normal and which ones abnormal just based on the information you’ve given us, along with what we’ve gained from the physical exam.

ND’s literally don’t need anything besides their medical bag, antibiotics, a comfortable surface and maybe some needles for acupuncture. Everything else needed for treatment could be found on the land (food, herbs, water, sun, each other) as well as in our minds (psychologically).
My job would be a lot easier... exercise will be vital for survival, everyone will go to bed at the proper time if there’s no electricity and refined sugar will be obsolete, among many other things. The future will basically revert to the past and everything will reset. Once we finish off all of the packaged and canned foods, we will be forced to live off of the land. Those weeds we’re always trying to get rid of will finally be used as nature intended (i.e. Dandelions for our liver and kidneys, burdock for our kidneys, Echinacea for infections, etc…). Counseling will always be necessary because no matter what happens people will be stressed, even if all of our jobs became irrelevant, our cars were no longer useful and we didn’t have to spend 20+ years in school. We’ll find something to stress about; “are we going to get attacked or eaten tonight? I can’t believe what happened; What if we can’t find enough food for the family; OMG I can’t find Bill (no cell phones).” People will always need to be listened to and reminded to live in the present rather than the past or the future.
So if all goes to hell, keep us ND’s in mind, I wouldn’t be against bartering healthcare for a rabbit or two ;).
What are some reasons why you think Naturopathic Medicine will always be relevant?
